The nuclear accident of Japan’s Fukushima nuclear energy plant has caused a lot of speculation including doomsday scenarios. You’ve heard it before – What if?

What if an earthquake or E-5 tornado happened exactly where a nuclear plant is stationed? These are legitimate questions considering the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant is in Athens, Alabama. At the heart of the question is the fact that, uranium nuclear power plants have fuel rods that must be cooled or they will release extremely dangerous toxins into the atmosphere.

Fukushima Nuclear Plant

All the uranium nuclear power plants are set up to have an adequate water supply to perform this function. The problem is the back-up resources in extreme cases of emergency.

Natural Disasters

Natural disasters like a tsunami, major earthquake or F-5 tornado can knock out the existing and back-up water cooling systems. This is exactly what happened in Japan. The importance of keeping the nuclear rods cool can be seen in the Tennessee Valley Authorities immediate reaction to the Fukushima disaster.

Tennessee Valley Authority

The T.V.A. correctly decided to shift more spent fuel from the water pools but not until they saw the Fukushima doomsday scenario. A Nuclear Regulatory Commission task force reported just two weeks ago that nuclear plants around the country need improvement in many areas.

The report included the need of monitoring highly radioactive spent fuel pools. As stated above the N.R.C. also concluded the need for nuclear plants to have the necessary ability to respond in emergency conditions.

So, what’s the problem?

Procrastination, follow through and money. Dave Lochbaum, a nuclear engineer who worked at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant said it’s not enough for the N.R.C. to just order safety nets. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission must make sure that the safety nets are installed. This means that as a nuclear engineer he witnessed the avoidence of safety measures properly enacted.

Nuclear Power Plants are notorious for not following through with safety measures. Their kind of like most politicians. Put it off and/or spend the money elsewhere. Let’s just hope it doesn’t cause a nuclear accident or doomsday threat – like Fukushima.

And just to think – all of this can be prevented by switching from dangerous uranium energy to the more abundant, efficient and safer thorium energy.

The Tennessee Valley Authority has been doing a lot of explaining because of mishaps at its Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Reactor. Since the recent storms and tornadoes the nuclear plant has had three shutdowns.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission

which is responsible for enforcing nuclear safety measures, has been closely observing the situation. And that is much of the problem – observing and not enforcing. Various safety regulation malfunctions have been ignored throughout the United States.

Does this remind you of the oil industry regulations? Thousands – not hundreds, but THOUSANDS – of leaking, contaminated oil drums are still left to leak in the Gulf of Mexico. Companies generally do not spend what they are suppose to on safety and environmental issues unless they are made to.

What Makes The Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Reactor

so dangerous? Just like in Fukushima, Japan fuel rods must be cooled by large amounts of water. Well, the cooling systems are run on electrical power and when that power goes out even to run back-up generators it can cause a disaster. Storms happen, tornadoes happen, earthquakes happen. Who are we to think we can control all of them when they do hit?

When the water heats to boiling because the water isn’t being cooled anymore it then dissipates. This is when a real catastrophy can begin. The fuel rods that are not cooled at this point can release highly radioactive chemicals into the atmosphere, land and water that can spread hundreds or thousands of miles.

Thorium Energy

Thorium reactors can totally eliminate the potentially catastrophic event that a fuel rod reactor like in the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant could cause. But there is big money invested in regular uranium nuclear energy. And – some of the powers that be can lose a lot of bucks if they switch to the safer, more abundant, more efficient thorium energy.

A good example of this is the Tennessee Valley Authority. They are well aware of the benefits of thorium. Right in their own backyard in Knoxville, Tennessee there was a working thorium nuclear reactor that has been largely ignored.

Then again – there is China

They are smart enough to be investing billions of dollars in thorium energy technology. Oh, by the way – Chinese representatives visited our Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Knoxville a few short weeks ago.

Get the picture? Our country has the technology but China is beating us to using our own thorium energy technology. I feel like vomiting.

Shame on you Tennessee Valley Authority. Use thorium at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant and elsewhere before it’s too late.

The massive flood waters of the Mississippi River finally crested at just under 48 feet – the 2nd highest in recorded history. In 1937 flood waters crested at 48.7 feet, which is still the record.

This brings little comfort to the people who have lost everything in the flood waters. With the water headed south toward New Orleans officials have had to make some horrible choices. Knowing the floods would spread miles wide like in Memphis the floods are being diverted away from causing another catastrophy in Louisiana.

Nevertheless, it is still horrible that more homes and farms will be destroyed in the diversion – by intentionally breaching a levee and other means of water control.

Besides loss of homes and belongings flood waters can bring mold, sickness and disease. Dangerous snakes, spiders, rats and other unwelcome criters often find their way into neighborhoods. Millions are affected by a disaster of this magnitude. Businesses lost and closed make matters worse resulting in lost income at the most impromptu time.

Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi

are three more states besides Tennessee that are severely impacted by the Mississippi River flood waters that destroyed miles of Memphis. It was a good decision to keep the floods away from New Orleans.

Alabama-Arkansas-Georgia-Mississippi-Tennessee Tornadoes

At least seven states were affected by the widespread tornadoes. The Wednesday, April 27th tornado destruction is now being called the worst natural disaster since Hurricane Katrina. The death toll continues to climb with the latest report being over 300 deaths.

This tornado season has broken the old record of how many tornadoes have been reported up until this time in April. The old record was 267 tornadoes set in 1971, with the new record being 453. This is a huge increase of tornado action.

Murfreesboro, TN

Here in Murfreesboro, TN tornadoes were spotted in the area. What was strange is that the same exact street that was hit with an F-4 tornado just two years ago was hit again. Thank GOD there were no deaths this time but Haynes Drive did see some destruction.

Other states and areas of Tennessee such as Chattanooga were not as fortunate. Our prayers are with them.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Some friends just came back from the Indianapolis, Indiana area. They said the snow and ice was so bothersome that they were glad they lived in Tennessee now. It was hard to get around with the ice and the cold made it stay longer too. My sister in Michigan laughs at global warming saying she can remember scientists warning people about global cooling or global freezing. This was in the 1970′s.

Time magazine had a featured article about global cooling and it even made their front cover story.

We at global freezing are going to add a great exciting feature to our blog soon. You will be able to upload your own snow and cold weather videos to the site. Also, we are going to have a special area of fun concerning the snow which is being kept under wraps for now.

So stay tuned whether your in North Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee, the UK or anywhere else - we want to hear from you and see your videos. In the mean time you are welcome to comment below.

Yes, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee

there was coffee froze that I accidently left in the vehicle. After banging the cup on the kitchen sink to get the frozen coffee out, the mug was ready to put the fresh coffee in.

This is another proof that global warming is nearly non-existent. When the freezing temperatures affects your coffee in the morning – in Murfreesboro, TN – then it’s Global Freezing, not global warming.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Oklahoma City was so cold Wednesday, February 9th that it was 34 degrees below the normal temperature. This is a perfect example about how preposterous it is for the global warming doomsday people to say that more snow means warmer temperatures – which shows global warming. Insane!

Oklahoma City had freezing temperatures WITH the snow. Also, it is already their second snowiest winter on record and there is a lot of winter left. The Weather Channel has been reporting freezing temperatures WITH snow and ice in Kansas, Oklahama, Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas, New Mexico, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, New York etc, etc, etc.

Massachusetts

The state of Massachusetts had over 100 roofs callapse from the tremendous amounts of snow and ice. There have been several other states too with homes, churches and commercial buildings giving way to the weight of these snowstorms. In most cases roofs don’t callapse immediately.

It is the prolonged weight of the snow and ice that usually cause the callapse. And common sense tells you that it is frigid cold temperatures that extends the time the snow and ice stays on the roof.

If the so called climate change or global warming was doing its job maybe all these roofs wouldn’t callapse – and maybe there wouldn’t be a 13′ snowman in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Here are the facts on global warming. After Atlanta, GA had its first measureable snow on Christmas since the 1880′s, it is now skating on ice. Yes, literally. Streets in and around Atlanta are sheets of ice putting transportation at a standstill. Kids are out of school in several states but parents are out of work.

Global Warming Facts

Consider some more global warming facts.

In southern states snow usually melts within hours after it falls. Not now. It is so bitterly cold, for such a long extended time, the snow is staying on the ground for days. It is so widespread covering hundreds of miles, the cold defies the facts of global warming.

New York City has had about half its usual snowfall already with over two months of winter left.

Woodbury, CT had about 30 inches of snow and many other cities over a foot of snow.

Schools in Michigan and other northern states are taking snow days off that rarely take them off because they are used to the snow.

Schools in Tennessee and other southern states are taking so many snow days off that they have none left for the rest of the long winter.

Some global warming enthusiasts say snow has nothing to do with global warming facts. I beg to differ. Even though there called snow days one of the major reasons schools close is because of the ice conditions brought about by the frigid cold temperatures.

Murfreesboro, TN – Rutherford County

Take my city of Murfreesboro, TN in Rutherford County as an example. As I type this post it is about 25 degrees and early tomorrow morning it will only be around 14 degrees. We are about 30 miles southeast of Nashville. Global freezing weather is well, around the globe.

Hootsuite is a social internet site where you can type in any search phrase of interest and amazingly you will see people talking about that very phrase. I have global freezing as a search phrase and see what others are saying about global freezing. Most of it is in the U.S.A. but it is also interesting to see people around the world talk about their global freezing conditions.

You can also create a group so I send a tweet out to my global freezing group.

Hootsuite has a huge following and it shows what’s going on far beyond Atlanta, GA and Woodbury, CT. Being American I love to track our weather and news but find it appealing to see who else is skating on ice around the world.

in light of the many calls for a “State of Emergency”. The governors of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee issued the states of emergency because of dangerous conditions in their respected states.

Huntsville, Alabama

had more snow in a couple of hours than their average for an entire winter season. As far south as Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas received snow accumulations part of the same snow system. Atlanta, Georgia had about 3 to 4 inches of snow which is enough to cause a catastrophy in the south.

In my neck of the woods, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee we received 5 inches of snow but other areas farther south Tennessee got as much as a foot of snow. Nebraska has also had severe winter weather and their snow system is ready to collide with another snow system to bring over a foot of snow on the northeast. And – there is more.

Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Kentucky, Ohio

and several other states have just been hit or are bracing for what’s to come. Indiana and our New England states have just recovered or are still trying to recover from recent snowstorms but are getting ready for more. With all this snow is often harsh cold winds with freezing temperatures.

The New Catastrophy is Global Freezing not Global Warming

Freezing weather has caused a catastrophy for farmers in Florida as plants freeze, and sometimes for consumers, when prices escalate out of control because of these conditions. Global warming is taking a backseat to global freezing and better hope the heat still works while back there.

Just don’t be a backseat driver while going through Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana or Tennessee – who needs that with a State of Emergency.
The report today exemplifies many other states that are having colder winters than have been seen in decades. It was snowing today in Middle Tennessee so maybe the groundhog was right. This cold, snowy weather seems to have no end in sight with the east coast getting another blast of global freezing temperatures recently.

Where is the Global Warming?

I actually read a post that looked like it was speaking against the global warming scam – but then it said the extra cold weather that was detroying crops was because of global warming! So if it is hot it is global warming or if it is cold it is global warming. Ha, Ha, Ha.
