The USA TODAY front page cover story on March 11, 2010 read “Is the GLOBAL WARMING MOVEMENT COOLING?” Much of the article was on Michael Mann’s side of the story about the global warming controversy. Michael Mann is a Penn State professor who has dedicated much of his life to climate change research. Even though I’m a global warming skeptic, Mr. Mann made a good point about how “If some of global warming research has been flawed it doesn’t discount all of it”.
He compared this to an auto manual that has a typo and how you wouldn’t stop driving the car because of it. Now, this comparison was awful. I agree with Walter Russell Mead who is with a New York based think tank the Council On Foreign Relations. You don’t change the whole world’s economy with the kind of evidence the global warming scientists have presented. There is much more at stake here than a typo in an auto manual.
Michael Mann’s wrong data on global warming has been used to make decisions that affect energy policy, jobs and taxes. Also, why does he think his wrong data is minor when if wrong data was used for major decisions in many businesses, the person who was responsible could be fired. But not Michael Mann.
A matter of fact President Obama still wants to send him and other global warming alarmists millions of dollars from American taxpayers. GOD help us.
